From why you HAVE to give your elf a name, to the reason you must NEVER touch them, these are the Elf on the Shelf rules every family needs to know.
Whether this is your first time adopting a Christmas Elf to sit on your shelf, or your favourite festive buddy is making a return this year, there are a few rules you need to know about your visitor.
Elves first started making their way to the UK from the North Pole around 2013 and have been spreading fun and mischief ever since.
Their job is to help Santa work out which kids are being good, report back on the adventures the children they're visiting are having, and maybe give the big man a few hints about what they want for Christmas, too. Elves generally follow the rules of the family they find themselves in, but there are a few rules that all Elves follow.
From why you HAVE to give your Elf a name, to the reason you must NEVER touch them, these are the Elf on the Shelf rules every family needs to know.
1. Your Elf will PROBABLY arrive in Scout Elf Return Week
2. You need to name your Elf to activate their magic!
3. Your Elf will report back to Santa nightly so be good!
4. Your Elf will return in a different spot every day (ish)
5. Your Elf won't move when it's being watched
6. Do NOT touch your Elf!
7. On very rare occasions, adults CAN touch Elf on the Shelf
8. Your Elf shouldn't go near candles or fires
9. Your Elf can give letters to Santa for you
10. Your Elf will leave on 24 December (usually)
